Oscar Hirst was born in Halifax, Yorkshire, on 15 September 1890, and attested for the Royal Marines Light Infantry, Plymouth Division, in Manchester on 10 February 1908. He served in H.M.S. Tiger during the Great War at the Battles of Dogger Bank and Jutland. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 4 November 1923, and was discharged on 14 September 1929. He subsequently served as a Constable in the Royal Marines Police at Gillingham, Kent. He died on 10 January 1968.


Kenneth Fraser Robertson was born in Fulham, London, in April 1902 , and served during the Great War as a Boy Mariner. He died in Surrey in 1976.
