Frank Essex was born in 1924 and undertook his Parachute course at No. 1 Parachute Training School, R.A.F. Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire, between July and August 1947, where he was noted as ‘a satisfactory performer, but rather nervous. Keen and eager.’ he subsequently served with the 6th Airborne Brigade in Palestine.
