Frank Edward Laceby was born in Bow, London, in 1878, and attested for the Corps of Sharpshooters in London on 6 March 1900. He served with the 71st (Sharpshooters) Company, 18th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War from 6 April 1900 to 8 June 1901, and was discharged on 14 June 1901, after 1 year and 101 days’ service. In civilian life he was the manager of a Public House.
