Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Syria (Joseph James Shrubsole.) traces of exposure to fire with bubble marks to surface fields, edge bruising, therefore very fine £400-500

Provenance: Glendining’s, March 1990.

James Joseph Shrubsole (also listed as Shrubsall on the Muster Lists) was born at St. Pancras, London in 1824, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 4 July 1839. He served as a Boy in the wooden paddle frigate H.M.S. Gorgon during operations on and off the coast of Syria, 1840, before leaving the Service when the Gorgon was paid off on 2 April 1842.
