The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Civil) Officer’s 2nd type badge, silver-gilt; British War and Victory Medals; Southern Rhodesia Medal for War Service; Coronation 1953, mounted as worn, very fine

British South Africa Company Medal 1890-97, reverse Matabeleland 1893, no clasp; 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Italy Star; Defence Medal, nearly very fine or better (17) £120-140

Provenance: (i) Spink Anglo-Boer War Anniversary Sale, October 1999.

Lieutenant-Colonel J. W. De Kock not only commanded a Fort during the Defence of Mafeking but as an Attorney often appeared at the Courts of Summary Jurisdiction. He defended Lieutenant Murchison at his Court Martial for the murder of the journalist E. G. Parslow and often defended natives who faced capital charges.
