Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (G. Le Corney. 2. Cap: M. Top. H.M.S. “Achilles”.) light pitting, very fine £80-100

George Thomas Le Corney was born at Plymouth on 25 March 1856, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 1st Class in 1873 and rose to Gunner’s Mate (Petty Officer Class II) by 1886 and finally Chief Petty Officer and Gunnery Instructor in 1890. He last served on H.M.S. Melampus, before he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve in 1901. He died in 1927, and is buried in Morden Cemetery, Surrey.
