1st Argyle & Bute Artillery Volunteers Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1878-1901, the rounded peak skull complete with all white metal fittings, the frontal plate of Royal Arms pattern with top scroll ‘First’, single wheel cannon and bottom scroll ‘Argyle & Bute Artillery Volrs’, buff leather sweat band and attached silk lining (perished), retailed by ‘Hobson & Sons, London’, the chin chain of 1869 shako pattern part detached from its lining, the ball finial of other ranks pattern, one front panel of the skull with melted patent leather accretion, the plate possibly original to the helmet but lacking the top lug fastener, otherwise sound condition £300-400
