Three: Lieutenant-Colonel D. A. Harris, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and Canadian Forces

Donald Allen Harris served 28 years in the Canadian Forces, enrolling in the regular Officer Training Plan at a Canadian Military College in 1957. His first duties, between 1961 and 1964, saw him in various positions with the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, culminating in the position of Adjutant. For the next four years he served at Royal Roads Military College, Victoria, British Colombia, first as Squadron Commander and then as an Army Staff Officer. In 1968 he assumed command of a Rifle company before moving to the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College, Kingston, Ontario. In 1970 he commanded a Rifle Company in Cyprus with the 3rd Company, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, as Officer Commanding the Support Company, before taking up a post at Headquarters, Air Transport Command, Trenton, Ontario, as Staff Officer of Programme Co-ordination and Protocol. In July 1975 he joined the 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, as Deputy Commanding Officer, before finishing his career in Ottawa, Ontario, assisting the Deputy Minister of Recruiting, Education, and Training.
