Daniel Joseph Moran was born in Londonderry, in May 1945. He attested for the Royal Marines in August 1961. He served with 43 Commando, January 1963 - September 1963; 40 Commando, September 1963 - March 1965 and primarily with 45 Commando between August 1967 - August 1973. Having advanced to Sergeant in March 1971, Moran served with 41 Commando, May 1975 - May 1977. He was promoted Colour Sergeant in April 1977, and returned to 40 Commando, May 1977 - April 1979. (awarded L.S. & G.C. 1 December 1977) He served at 45 Commando Group, September - November 1982, and was ‘Pensioned’ in May 1985.
