Kenneth Mackenzie was born in Portsmouth, in December 1895. He attested for the Royal Marines at Gosport, in January 1913. He served with H.M.S. Glory (battleship) July 1914 - April 1916 (during which time she was employed off the Dardenelles), and H.M.S. Birmingham (light cruiser) April 1917 - April 1918. He advanced to Corporal in January 1918, and to Hospital Staff Sergeant in March 1927.

Mackenzie was promoted Hospital Quarter Master Sergeant, Chatham, in July 1931 (awarded L.S. & G.C. 17 February 1929). He was discharged 19 December 1934, after 21 years service. He was mobilised 28 September 1938, and served during the Second War.

Sold with the following original documents: Great War and Second Parchment Certificates of Service; Certificate of Discharge, dated 19 December 1934; named enclosure for Imperial Service Medal; two portrait photographs of recipient in uniform and R.A.C. Driver’s Certificate, dated 14 December 1934.
