Albert Edward Hughesman was born in Barnsbury, London, on 28 June 1876, and joined the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class on 6 September 1895. Advanced to Stoker First Class on 1 July 1906, he was discharged on 11 September 1907, and joined the Royal Fleet Reserve at Chatham on 23 November 1907. He served in the Hood Battalion, Royal Naval Division during the Great War, and was awarded his Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 29 August 1917. He died in 1984, aged 108.
