Three: Private J. McHugh, Highland Light Infantry

1914 Star, with clasp (7952 Pte. J. Mc.Hugh. 2/High: L.I.); British War and Victory Medals (7952 Pte. J. Mc Hugh. High. L.I.) light contact marks, very fine (3) £80-120

John McHugh was born in 1883 and attested for the Highland Light Infantry at Edinburgh on 30th July 1902. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, he served with the Regiment in Egypt from December 1903 until October 1904, before transferring to the Army Reserve. Recalled to the Colours on the outbreak of the Great War, he served with the 2nd Battalion on the Western Front from 10 August 1914 until 4 October 1914, and again from 23 February 1915 until 28 May 1915. He was invalided out on 22 September 1915, suffering from a gun shot wound to the left breast, after a total of 13 years and 57 days’ service.
