G. Wassell was the son of Arthur G. Wassell of 40 Centre Street, Grimsbury, Banbury. He served with The Oxfordshire Yeomanry (Hussars), who entered France on 22 September 1914 on the strength of the General Headquarters. They were soon deployed as part of 2nd Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division (31 October 1914), then with 4th Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division (11 November 1914). He died of wounds, 14 January 1916, and is buried in Banbury Cemetery.
