A scarce Royal Marines M.S.M. group of three awarded to Quarter Master Sergeant Instructor C. E. Peters, Royal Marine Light Infantry

Charles Edgar Peters was born in Wandsworth, London, in January 1875. He attested for the Royal Marines at London, in September 1892. He advanced to Corporal, and served with H.M.S. Theseus, January 1896 - May 1897. He served with H.M.S. Empress of India, June 1897 - June 1900, during which time she was part of the International Squadron sent to blockade Crete during the 1897 uprising. He advanced to Sergeant in January 1901, and returned for service with the Chatham Division (awarded the L.S. & G.C. 25 January 1908). He was promoted Colour Sergeant in January 1910, and Quarter Master Sergeant Instructor of Infantry in August the following year. He was discharged in January 1914, ‘due to length of service. Temporarily exempted from mobilisation. Paid War Gratuity £24.10 19 May 1919’.

Peters was awarded the M.S.M. and annuity, 16 April 1947. He died in December the following year.
