Cecil Clough was born in Cleckheaton, Yorkshire, and attested for the 18th (Public Schools) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, before transferring, first to the 7th Battalion East Kent Regiment, and then secondly to the 17th (Empire) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, with whom he served during the Great War on the Western Front from 14 November 1915. He died on 22 December 1960.

Cecil Clough’s brother, Sergeant Arthur Clough, served during the Great War with the 9th Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, and was killed in action on 9 April 1917.
