Queen’s Own Light Infantry Militia (Tower Hamlets) Lieutenant-Colonel’s 1855 Pattern Shako, the very fine black beaver body complete with black patent leather sunken top, front and rear peaks and bottom bracing band, the frontal plate is in silver plate and of crowned star pattern overlaid with a pierced gilt circle ‘Queen’s Own Light Infantry Militia’, in the centre on a domed and lined ground a gilt strung bugle horn, green wool ball plume with correct ‘cut-ball’ pattern plume holder, the plate not original to the shako, two broad silver lace rank bands, original black leather chin strap, buff leather sweatband and crimson silk lining with retailer’s stamp for ‘Buckmaster & Co., London & Dublin’, together with a black metal carrying tin, one hole to the front of the shako where a previous plate had fitted otherwise very fine overall condition £500-700
