Hussars) minor official correction to surname; together with a 11th Hussars Temperance Medal, silver, the crest of Prince Albert within a wreath inscribed ‘Prince Albert’s Own Hussars’, good very fine (2) £100-140

11th Hussars Temperance Medal referenced in Balmer, R.66.

Albert Edward Dewar was born in Edinburgh on 20 February 1872 and attested there for the 11th Hussars on 10 September 1895. He served with the Regiment in India from 11 September 1896. and took part in the operations on the Punjab Frontier, 1897-98, prior to purchasing his discharge on 13 October 1899, after 4 years and 44 days’ service. He was recalled to the Colours on the outbreak of the Great War on 19 December 1914, and served with the Army Service Corps in the Egyptian theatre of War from 23 February 1915. He was advanced to Warrant Officer Class II, and was discharged on 13 February 1919 (also received a Silver War Badge). He subsequently served as a trolley bus driver in London, and died at Ealing, Middlesex, on 1 June 1952.
