Richard Atkinson was born in the Parish of Whitchurch, Yorkshire, and enlisted for the 3rd Foot Guards at Birmingham on 14 March 1799, aged 18, a bricklayer by trade. A Private throughout his total service of 22 years 179 days, he was discharged in London on 8 September 1821, in consequence of ‘being wounded in the hand at Talavera & in the arm at Burgos,’ and was admitted to Chelsea Hospital as an In-Pensioner shortly afterwards. Sold with copied discharge papers and various In-Pensioner lists.
