Five: Major M. W. Kerr-Smith, Royal Artillery

M.I.D. London Gazette 16 December 1943:

‘in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Burma and on the Eastern Frontier of India.’

Michael William Kerr-Smith was born in 1921, and served as a Cadet at Sandhurst prior to being commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, in February 1941. He served as an Instructor at the School of Artillery, Deolali, from November 1943. Kerr-Smith advanced to Lieutenant in November 1944, and served as Acting Captain, 1944-46.

After the war Kerr-Smith served at the Armaments Design Establishment, Fort Halstead, Kent, and at the Directorate of Artillery. He was promoted Major in October 1955, and served at the Directorate of Ballistic Missiles, Ministry of Defence from February 1959. Kerr-Smith retired in December 1963.
