Eight: Corporal A. H. Weston, Essex Regiment

Alfred Henry Weston was born on 20 August 119, and attested for the Essex Regiment on 8 February 1938. He qualified as a Driver Mechanic on 21 August 1940, and completed a Carrier course on 12 July 1942, and a Carrier Maintenance course on 12 December 1943. He served during the Second World War in north-west Europe post D-Day.
Weston qualified as a Marksman with a light machine-gun on 16 June 1948, and served with the advance party of the 1st Battalion in Korea. The Battalion was due to relieve the 1st Royal Fusiliers and the advance party were attached to the Fusiliers immediately prior to the ceasefire on 27 July 1953. This body of 32 Officers and men were therefore the only members of the Essex Regiment to receive the Queen’s Korea Medal.
Advanced to Corporal, Weston subsequently served with the 1/3rd East Anglian Regiment in Malaya in 1959.
