Thomas Haywood was born in St. Pancras, London, in 1885, and attested for the 11th Hussars at London on 27 October 1905, having previously served with the 5th (Militia) Battalion, Rifle Brigade. He served with the 11th Hussars during the Great War on the Western Front from 15 August 1914 (also entitled to a 1914 Star), and was posted to the Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry) on 26 February 1916. He was killed in action on 23 March 1918. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France.
