William Davis was born in Castle Church, Stafford, and attested for the North Staffordshire Regiment at Lichfield, in October 1892. He served with the 1st Battalion in the Sudan, October 1895 - October 1897, and in South Africa, February 1902 - September 1902. Davis was discharged 17 October 1904, having served 12 years with the Colours.
