Four: Gunner H. Wood, Royal Artillery, who was awarded the French Medaille Militaire for gallantry in the bombardment of Sebastopol, where he brought in a wounded Croat under a heavy fire

Crimea 1854-56, 4 clasps, Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol, unofficial rivets between clasps, as issued (Gu.. & Drir. Henry Wood. R.A.) contemporarily engraved naming; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (1998 Gunr. Henry Wood Coast Bgde. Royl. Arty.) impressed naming; France, Second Empire, Medaille Militaire, silver and enamel, with eagle suspension, reverse central medallion re-affixed; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, pierced with ring suspension, unnamed as issued, suspension claw re-affixed on L.S. & G.C., contact marks, especially to first, therefore nearly very fine or better (4) £700-900

Henry Wood served with No. 2 Company, 1st Battalion, Royal Artillery during the Crimean War, and was awarded the French Medaille Militaire for having ‘served in five bombardments with zeal and gallantry, and exerted himself in bringing in a wounded Croat under a heavy fire in September bombardment.’
