Great Britain, Royal Military College, Sandhurst, a silver award medal by Phillips, crowned arms and military trophies, rev. wreath, named (Open Boxing Competition, 1922 Feather Weight, Winner, G.I. Malcolm, No.2 Coy.), 50mm. About extremely fine (£40-60)

Lt-Col George Ian Malcolm of Poltalloch (1903-76), grandson of Lillie Langtry; educ. Eton and Sandhurst; commissioned into Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, 1923; ADC in India, 1927-8; adjutant in 8th (Argyllshire) battalion, 1933-7; member of the Royal Company of Archers, 1935; served in India, Egypt, Sudan and Palestine in World War II; commanded the 8th Bn in Austria, 1945-6; retired 1947; produced the Vienna Tattoo, 1946, the Edinburgh Tattoo, 1949-51 and the Royal Tournament, 1953; lived at Lochgilphead, Argyllshire. Further biographical detail and a copy of an article on Lillie Langtry, which describes at length her daughter Jeanne Marie, the recipient’s mother, is sold with the lot
