City of London Militia a Major’s 1869 Pattern Shako, of special pattern, the blue cloth body with a sunken black leather top and a similar broad bracing band round the lower part of the body, crowned frontal plate of star pattern overlaid with oak sprays, a strap ‘Domine Dirige Nos’ enclosing the Arms of the City of London, a broad silver lace Major’s lace band around the top, silver plated plume holder of 1861 pattern with black wool ball plume, buff leather sweatband and quilted crimson silk lining with retailer’s stamp ‘Brown & Son, London’, the plate appears to be original to the shako, the plume stem retaining plate present but detached, the orb and cross on the frontal plate with damage, the lining part perished and detached otherwise good overall condition £500-600
