4th Yeovil Troop the East Somerset Yeomanry Cavalry Guidon 1794, a very fine single sided swallow tailed example in crimson silk complete with gold fringe and painted details, the guidon was presented by the Countess Poulett, wife of the 4th Earl, who was a Knight of the Thistle, Lord Lieutenant and Colonel of various military auxiliary regiments, the decoration included an Earl’s coronet, twin ovals featuring the crests of the family, the unit title ‘Somerset Yeomen Cavalry’, the family motto ‘Gardez-la-foy’, the troop number and four other decorative panels, two feature the Earl’s coronet and his initials the other two with rose and thistle sprays, 88 x 59.5 cms including the gold fringe, the guidon is also complete with the added silk tassels and suspension cords. At present the guidon is laid down upon a black cloth base and frame, some slight perishing in the crimson silk otherwise in remarkably good condition for its age £2000-3000
