88th Foot Order of Merit, Second Class for seven actions, 38mm, silver, the obverse featuring Hibernia, seated with harp, holding forth a wreath of laurel, the reverse featuring a wreath of laurel with ‘88’ at the apex enclosing the engraved actions, ‘Orthes, Vittoria, Toulouse, Fuentes d’Onor, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive’ (Sergt. Thomas Moore) with replacement rings for suspension, very fine £500-600

Thomas Moore was born in the Parish of Emlaghfad, near Sligo, and attested for the 88th Foot at Drogheda on 10 September 1806, aged 19 years. He served for 21 years 144 days, and was discharged on 10 November 1827, being worn out through length of service.
