Defence Medal; St. John Service Medal (20949. Amb. Sis. Sophia Lewis. Merthyr Nsg. Div. Merthyr Tydfil. 1939), with Five Additional Award Bars, mounted as worn, together with the recipient’s St. John Re-examination Cross, Priory for Wales, silver, the reverse engraved ‘W.A.2931 Sophie [sic] Rees 1924’, with 8 silver date labels for the years 1925 and 1927-33, interspersed with 8 silver Home Nursing pendants covering a similar period, all numbered on the reverse ‘W.A.2931’; the recipient’s Civil Nursing Reserve and National Hospital Service Reserve lapel badges; Order of St John Priory for Wales lapel badge; and an A.R.P. lapel badge, generally very fine and better (lot) £70-90

Sophia Jane Lewis, née Rees, was born in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire, on 2 January 1903, and was awarded her St. John Service Medal in 1939, receiving additional award bars in 1944, 1949, 1954, 1959, and 1964. She died in Merthyr Tydfil in 1983.
