Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Orange Free State, unofficial rivets between fourth and fifth clasps (5240 Corl. W. Walker, R: Welsh Fus:) light scratches to obverse field, otherwise nearly extremely fine £180-220

William Henry Walker was born in Birmingham in 1878 and attested for the Royal Welsh Fusiliers at Birmingham on 16 October 1896. He served with the Regiment in South Africa during the Boer War from 23 October 1899 until 3 February 1903, and suffered a shell wound to the mouth during the Relief of Ladysmith, 24 February 1900, on which day the Royal Welsh Fusiliers suffered 2 Officers (including their commanding officer Colonel C. C .H. Thorold) and 6 other ranks killed in action, and 2 Officers and 29 other ranks wounded. Promoted Sergeant on 15 July 1900, he was discharged medically unfit on 14 August 1903, after 6 years and 303 days’ service.

Sold with copied medal rolls which confirms all five clasps, as well as the issue of the King’s South Africa Medal with two clasps.
