William Todd was born in Walworth, London, and had served for 9 years and 234 days with the 13th Foot prior to attesting for the Royal Marine Artillery in March 1869. He served with H.M. ships Dromedary, Active, and Victor Emmanuel, prior to his discharge 5 August 1880.
