China 1857-60, 2 clasps, Taku Forts 1860, Pekin 1860 (J. S. Smith, Master, R.N. H.M.S. Imperieuse.) contemporarily engraved naming, traces of brooch mounting to obverse and suspension re-affixed, significant scratches to Queen’s neck, nearly very fine £200-240

John Sidney Smith passed as Master on 22 April 1846, and served in that role in H.M.S. Spiteful from 14 July 1854 until 14 March 1855, and H.M.S. Vulcan from the latter date until 27 September 1856 (entitled to a no clasp Crimea medal, and a Turkish Crimea Medal). Appointed as Master in H.M.S. Imperieuse on 28 June 1859, he served in her until 3 February 1861, before transferring to the Reserve List on 8 March 1865. He died on 10 April 1886.

Note: Roll confirms Smith as receiving a no clasp medal, and he is not confirmed as being entitled to either of the two clasps present.
