Addington Taylor was appointed Ensign in the 25th Bengal Native Infantry on 11 June 1847, and served throughout the Second Sikh War of 1848-49, including the affair at Ramnuggur, 22 November 1848; and the skirmish at Sadoolapore, 14 December 1848; and the battles of Chilianwala, 13 January 1849, and Goojerat, 21 February 1849. He was promoted Lieutenant on 15 November 1853; Captain on 17 October 1857; Major on 24 January 1867; Lieutenant-Colonel on 11 June 1873; and Colonel on 8 December 1877.
