Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Sahagun & Benevente (Heinrich Bergmann, 3rd Hussars, K.G.L.) edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise very fine £1800-2200

Heinrich Bergmann also served at Waterloo in Captain Augustus von Harling’s troop and was awarded the Guelphic Medal for Bravery, as recounted in Beamish’s History of the King’s German Legion:

‘Hussar Henry Bergmann, 3rd Hussars. In the battle of Waterloo, a French cavalry regiment stood opposite the third hussars. Bergmann dashed out from the ranks of his own accord, attacked the commanding officer of the regiment, cut him from his horse in front of his men, and returned to his place in the ranks.’
