British War and Victory Medals (17692 Sgt. A. G. H. Henser [sic]. R.A.F.) in named card box of issue, of later issue, extremely fine (2) £200-300

Albert Godfrey Heuser was born on 20 February 1886 and was a Motor Mechanic and Chauffeur in civilian life. Proceeding to Russia in 1914, he served during the early part of the Great War with the Russian Red Cross Society from 14 September 1914 until 14 December 1915 (Gregorian Calendar), before enlisting in the Royal Flying Corps on 7 January 1916. He was promoted Corporal on 1 August 1917, and Sergeant Mechanic on 28 March 1918, transferring to the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918. He transferred to the Reserve on 17 February 1919, and was discharged on 30 April 1920. He died on 11 February 1962.

Sold together with the recipient’s passport, dated 7 July 1914; Russian Red Cross Certificate of Service; British Recruiting Committee enlistment certificate, with accompanying Doctor’s Certificate, both dated December 1915; named Record Office enclosure for the British War and Victory Medals, dated 22 November 1941; Memorial Booklet, Golders Green Crematorium, inscribed ‘Heuser, Albert Godfrey, born 20th Feb. 1886, died 11th Feb. 1962’; and the recipient’s silver cigarette case presented to the recipient by members of the Imperial Russian Red Cross, silver marks and maker’s mark inside, the outside engraved with the R.F.C. badge and the recipient’s initials below, with a large gold and silver motoring badge, and additionally embellished with various motifs that give an indication as to the recipient’s character, including a bottle of Champagne, a pair of French knickers, and the Queen of Spades playing card.
