Arthur Alfred Roberts was born in London, in 1888, and was serving as a Gunner, 12th Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery in India, in 1911. In the Great War on the Western Front, Roberts served as Armourer Staff Sergeant with the Army Ordnance Corps from 19 September 1915.He was commissioned in the Machine Gun Corps on 23 February 1917, and attached to the Intelligence Corps. His Medal Index Card notes "Camp Commandant of the Army of the Black Sea forwards nominal roll of individuals entitled to Emblems 15.3.1920". After the War, Roberts was granted several special appointments, relinquishing his commission on completion of service on 1 July 1921. He died in Hampstead in 1974.
