William Wright Crowther was born in New Wortley, Yorkshire, and attested for the West Riding (Duke of Wellington’s) Regiment at Bradford, Yorkshire. He served with the 8th Battalion during the Great War, and was killed in action in the Mediterranean theatre on 12 August 1915 (additionally entitled to a 1914-15 Star). He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
