Andrew Bertie Harland was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, and attested there for the Yorkshire Regiment. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion on the Western Front from 9 September 1915, and died of wounds on 20 April 1917. He is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
