Leopold Arthur Barthorp Edenborough was born in 1889 in Redhill, Surrey, and was educated at Weymouth College, Weymouth, Dorset. He enlisted on 10 September 1914 in the Honourable Artillery Company, at 6 feet 4.5 inches in height, and served with the Honourable Artillery Company during the Great War on the Western Front from 23 January 1915. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in 1st/4th Battalion Royal West Surrey Regiment on 29 May 1915 and served in India with his battalion from October 1915. He was promoted Lieutenant on 11 September 1916. Having suffered with enteritis ‘practically all his life’, he suffered bouts of colitis throughout his service and left India on 3 December 1916 for treatment in England, weighing nine and a half stones, having lost two and a half stones since the beginning of 1916. After treatment in various hospitals, he was disembodied on 21 March 1920. Subsequently a schoolmaster by profession, he died in 1949, in Bromley, Kent.
