Rupert Arthur Driver was born in Southampton, the son of J. B. Driver, a Headmaster. He was employed as an Assistant Master at Eversley School, Southwold, prior to the Great War. He served during the Great War with the 7th (Service) Battalion, Suffolk Regiment in the French theatre of war from 27 October 1915. He was ‘seriously wounded in France on November 1st 1915 - head, chest & abdomen’ (papers included with the lot refer).

Driver was attached to the 2/19th Punjabis, Indian Army in May 1917, and transferred to the Indian Army permanently as Lieutenant in May the following year. Advancing to Captain in 1919, he was attached for service with the 1/26th Punjabis in Waziristan. After the war he followed in his father’s footsteps and was employed as a school master. In later life he resided at 4 Burton Villas, Hove, Sussex, and died in November 1965 at Paddington General Hospital, London.
