1914 Star, with clasp (6025 Pte W. Cochrane. 11/Hrs.); British War and Victory Medals (6025 A. Sjt. W. Cochrane. 13-Hrs.); Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (1042 A. Sjt: W. Cochrane. A.V.C:); Voluntary Medical Service Medal (W. Cochrane.); together with two silver 13th Hussars Inter-Squadron Football Cup Medals, one engraved ‘W. Cochrane, “A” Squadron 1905’; the other similarly inscribed but dated 1908; and a silver medal, the obverse engraved ‘XIII Cps. Horse Show, France, 1918’, the reverse engraved ‘2nd Tent Pegging (O.R.) Sgt. W. Cochrane, M.V.S. 4 Div.’, good very fine (8) £300-400

William Cochrane served with the 11th Hussars during the Great War on the Western Front from 16 August 1914. He was promoted and transferred to the 13th Hussars and then to the Army Veterinary Corps on 13 April 1915.

Approximately 42 ‘Immediate’ Meritorious Service Medals to the Army Veterinary Corps for the Great War.
