Pair: Captain W. Power, 32nd Foot, an original Defender of Lucknow, who died of wounds on 10 August 1857

Foot.) latter impressed in Calcutta Mint-style capitals and therefore probably a later issue, suspension claw and post tightened on latter, generally very fine, the first better (2) £1400-1800

William Power was commissioned Ensign in the 32nd Foot on 6 April 1843, and promoted Lieutenant on 23 February 1848. He served during the Second Sikh War at the first and second siege operations before Mooltan, including the attack on the enemy’s position in front of the advanced trenches on 12 September 1848; the action of Soorjkoon; the attack on the suburbs of 27 December, the storm and capture of the city, and the surrender of the fortress; and was also at the surrender of the fort and garrison of Cheniote, and the Battle of Goojerat. Promoted Captain on 21 September 1855, he served during the Indian Mutiny, and was one of the original defenders of Lucknow, who defended the city during the siege of 29 June to 22 November 1857, and he died of wounds there on 10 August 1857.
