Military Medal, G.V.R. (32947 Gnr: J. G. Hall. B. 177/Bde: R.F.A.); British War and Victory Medals (32947 Gnr. J. G. Hall. R.A.) polished, very fine (3) £300-360

M.M. London Gazette 18 October 1917 (Ypres).

John George Hall was born in September 1895 in Marylebone, Middlesex, and attested for the Royal Field Artillery at Fulham on 2 July 1915. Posted to ‘B’ Battery, 177th (Fulham) Brigade, he was absent without leave on 24 October 1915 at Mytchett Camp until 1 November, and then deserted again at Deepcut on 15 November 1915, only to re-join on 25 January 1916, being docked 73 days pay and being awarded 14 days Field Punishment No. 2 for absence without leave and deficiency in kit. He served with the Brigade during the Great War on the Western Front from 26 January 1916, where the unit was part of the 16th Irish Division, and was present at the Third Battle of Ypres. Following Ypres, Hall was granted leave from 1 to 11 August 1917, and was awarded the Military Medal. This leave was likely as a result of his M.M. award. Following the Armistice, Hall was 'awarded' 4 days Field Punishment by his Officer Commanding on 13 December 1918 for 'conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline (insolence and improper remarks in the presence of an Officer)’. He embarked for ‘demob’ at Boulogne on 19 June 1919 but was not discharged until 31 March 1920. He died in 1973 in Marylebone, Middlesex.
