Thomas William Morgan was born in Abecarn, Monmouthshire on 16 March 1891. A Chief Land Surveyor in the Llanarth Estate, and captain of the Abercarn Football Club, he attested for service in the 2nd City of London Yeomanry, serving with them in the U.K. from 21 September - 12 December 1914 when he was discharged to a commission in the R.F.A. With the artillery he landed in Gallipoli in August 1915. He was invalided to England, suffering from Paratyphoid Fever, arriving there on 14 December 1915. Pronounced fit for light duties, he was posted for duty with 4A Reserve Brigade, R.F.A. at Woolwich in April 1916 and was again on active service from June 1917. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 July 1917 and attained the rank of Captain and Adjutant on 25 March 1918 and was officer in charge of the Signal Sub-Section 26th Brigade R.F.A. from February-April 1918. For his wartime services he was awarded the Military Cross, being presented with the decoration at Buckingham Palace in February 1920. Sold with original telegram to attend the investiture at Buckingham Palace; original paper clipping re. the presentation, four photographs and a quantity of copied service papers and other research. Special Constabulary L.S. Medal in original card box of issue marked ‘Kent’ and a damaged named W.W.1 medal card box of issue.
