Paul Meske served during the Second World War with the 15th Cavalry Regiment, the 114 Grenadier Regiment, and the 39th Jäger Regiment, and was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class on 3 September 1943. He was wounded on five occasions, on 1 February 1942; 5 May 1943; 12 August 1943; 1 September 1943; and 21 June 1944.
