Country Landowners Association, Gamekeepers Long Service Medal, with ‘50 Years Service’ clasp, obverse stamped ‘silver’, engraved on the reverse (T. W. Turner 1962) contained in its CLA case of issue, extremely fine and scarce £30-40

Tom William Turner was head gamekeeper on the Elveden Estate, near Thetford, on the Suffolk border, formerly owned by Maharajah Duleep Singh, who became one of the finest shots in the country. The estate is now owned by Earl of Iveagh, of the Guiness family. Tom Turner was born on the estate in 1868, his father being a shepherd there. He became head gamekeeper on the estate in 1916 and served in that capacity until 1953. He published Memoirs of a Gamekeeper in 1954.
