Lloyd’s Medal for Saving Life at Sea, 1st large type bronze medallion (J. E. Coslett, “Bremerhaven” 15th. Dec. 1895.) in fitted case, edge bruising, good very fine £260-300

Provenance: Captain J. Hartford Collection, Glendining’s, September 1992.

J. E. Coslett was a member of the crew of the S.S. Kirkby who was awarded the Lloyd’s Medal for Saving Life at Sea for the rescue of the crew of the barque Bremerhaven, which was found sinking in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 December 1895, whilst bound from Philadelphia for Chantenay; after the rescue had been performed the Bremerhaven was abandoned at sea.
