Leach was awarded his Imperial Yeomanry L.S. & G.C. in February 1905, one of 42 to the unit.

Thomas Ambrose Leach was born in Tiverton, Devon, and attested for the Territorial Force at the town of his birth, in April 1884. He advanced to Squadron Sergeant Major with the Royal 1st Devon Imperial Yeomany, and was discharged 31 March 1908, having served 23 years and 347 days. He re-enlisted for an additional seven years service later that year, and finally retired 19 March 1915, having completed 31 years and 336 days with the Imperial Yeomanry.
