I.O.M. Notification 1385, 18 November 1916.
‘For conspicuous gallantry and most valuable and loyal assistance on the 8th March 1916 during the attack on the enemy’s trench during their attack on the Dujailah Redoubt and during the retirement. After his captain had been hit the third time, Subadar Khan Gul, 59th Rifles, collected the remainder of the men and took up a position from which he covered the retirement of the left of the Brigade. This Indian Officer has always set a fine example to his men, notably at Givenchy and Neuve Chapelle.’
