William Henry Sadler was born at Southwark, London, in 1878, and attested for the Middlesex Regiment at Hounslow, Middlesex, on 21 February 1900, having previously served in the Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps. He served in South Africa during the Boer War from 10 March 1900, and was discharged in South Africa on 20 October 1900 after 242 days’ service, going on to see further service with the Volunteer Company.
