Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Lucknow, Central India (Owen. Burnes. 3rd Bn. Rifle Bde.) suspension claw slack, otherwise very fine £600-700

Owen Burns was born at Collon, County Louth, and attested for the 1st Battalion, Rifle Brigade at Richmond, Yorkshire, on 26 February 1855, aged 25, a labourer by trade. Shortly afterwards he was transferred to the 3rd Battalion with whom he served throughout the Indian Mutiny. He was discharged at Aldershot on 8 July 1875, having served 14 years 6 months in the East Indies and being found unfit for further service: ‘He is worn out by long tropical service and active service in the Mutiny’. Sold with copied discharge papers which confirm medal and clasps.
